Let's dive in.
Stability AI released a new LLM model: StableLM
StabilityAI, which is known for the image model Stable Diffusion, released StableLM, their suite of language models. Here's what we know so far:
There are currently 3B and 7B parameter models available, with 15B and 30B on the way.
You can use these models for both research & commercial use.
And the best part? They're open-sourced! For real, this time.
But the big question is: Is it better than GPT-4?
Unfortunately, we still don't know. There's no technical report or comparison data yet. But here's the interesting part: even though their models are trained on fewer parameters (3B to 30B), they still claim high performance in conversational and coding tasks. And as we all know, size isn't everything... or is it? Let's wait and see what happens with this new kid on the block.
Snapchat launched "My AI" and onboards 363 million to AI
Snapchat just made its My AI chatbot available to all 363 million users!
Here's what you need to know:
My AI was previously exclusive to Snapchat+ subscribers, but now everyone can enjoy its benefits!
The chatbot, powered by ChatGPT, can provide recommendations, answer questions, and help you make plans.
You can personalize My AI by giving it a name and creating a custom Bitmoji avatar.
This move is a part of OpenAI's decision to grant third-party businesses access to ChatGPT.
By making AI technology more accessible, Snapchat is leading the way for AI adoption in social media.
Get ready, folks, because the era of AI integration in social media is just getting started!
Looks like My AI is about to become everyone's new best friend!
Musk puts honesty first to build TruthGPT
Have you heard the latest news from the Elon Musk vs. OpenAI showdown?
Here are the deets:
Elon Musk announced his plans to create TruthGPT, a super AI that seeks maximum truth about the universe
This comes just three weeks after he signed an Open Letter calling for a pause on AI developments more powerful than GPT-4
In a tweet, Elon hinted that he might sue OpenAI for defrauding him with "Wait for it..."
Looks like the gloves are off and the battle has begun between Elon and OpenAI

Microsoft is working on the secret AI chip
Microsoft's been hush-hush about their new AI chip code-named Athena. The rumor's out, though - it's designed to train language models like ChatGPT, and it's been in the works since 2019! Who knew?!
Here's what we know so far:
Athena could help lower AI application costs for Microsoft.
It could also improve negotiation power with Nvidia, which is just like a showdown in the Wild West.
A lucky few Microsoft and OpenAI employees are testing Athena right now.
It's expected to be available internally and for OpenAI by next year, but will it be available for Azure customers? The jury's still out.
I reckon Microsoft is wrangling up some mighty fine AI technology with Athena! It could be a game changer, folks - keeping them at the top of the AI competition and reducing costs. We'll be keeping an eye on this one, partners!"
Google is reimagining a search to build an AI search
Google is at it again with its new AI search engine called Project 'Magi'! Here are the juicy details:
160 engineers have been working on it. That's like having a small village working on this project!
Say goodbye to scrolling through pages of results, because it will have a chat-like interface, just like ChatGPT.
Booking a flight will be a breeze as you can do it directly on Google search.
The release is expected next month for limited U.S. citizens, so get your popcorn ready!
The bottom line: Google is taking search to the next level with an AI chatbot that gives you instant answers.
Just so you know, Samsung thought about switching to Microsoft Bing as its default search engine, which could have cost Google a whopping $3 billion in annual revenue. Talk about a close call!
Elon Musk vs Microsoft and OpenAI
Elon Musk, aka the CEO of Twitter, just threatened to sue Microsoft for using Twitter's data to train its AI model. That's after reports that Microsoft dropped Twitter from its advertising platform.
Here are the juicy details:
Musk's tweet accuses Microsoft of illegally using Twitter's data to train its AI model.
This comes after Musk signed an Open Letter calling for a pause on AI developments more powerful than GPT-4, announced plans for TruthGPT, and started his own AI company called X.AI.
Musk's threats highlight the growing tension surrounding data ownership in the AI landscape, and the battle for AI dominance has just begun.
But wait, there's more! Reddit and Stack Overflow have also made some moves:
Reddit, the holy grail of weird and wonderful content, is now demanding payment from big dogs like OpenAI and Google who use its free APIs to train their language models. Reddit's founders have had enough of companies benefiting from their community without giving back.
Stack Overflow, the coding Q&A site, is also charging big corporations for using its content to train models. This could be a real downer for the development of useful LLMs, as the ability to answer coding questions is a huge use case for ChatGPT-style tools.
Other cool news: MiniGPT-4, AI wearable, and biological development
MiniGPT-4
The GPT-4 has been teasing us with the promise of a chatbot that can answer questions about images, but MiniGPT-4 is here to save the day! This mini model can do all sorts of things, like:
explain what's in a photo
help solve problems (like a dead plant)
write poems about photos
give you code for a sketch (sometimes...)
write ads for your photos
create recipes and shopping lists for your meal photos
and explain art
Plus, it's open-source, so you can check out the code here!
Humane Wearables: The Future is Here
A former Apple guy has been secretly raising $230 million for an AI-powered wearable device. Humane Wearables uses voice and gesture interaction to make Siri and Alexa look like they're from the Stone Age. We've seen similar projects before, but with this much funding, I can't wait to see what these guys come up with. A TED talk and video are expected soon, so stay tuned!
Organoid Intelligence: The Future of AI?
A startup called Cortical Labs just got $10 million in funding for a wild idea called Organoid Intelligence. They plan to create a biological operating system using human stem cells to power AI. They've already demonstrated that a version of this system in a Petri dish was able to learn how to play Pong (if you don't know what that is, you're probably too young for this newsletter). This sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but who knows? Maybe this is the future of AI!
