Let's dive in.
SeamlessM4T: New open-source model from Meta
Meta, the company behind numerous tech advancements, continues its streak of innovations by open-sourcing various top-notch AI models, including text, music, audio, speech, and now, a translation model.
Highlights:
Their latest creation, SeamlessM4T, is a powerful multilingual model designed to handle a wide range of tasks.
It's essentially a universal language translator, somewhat like the fictional Babel Fish in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."
According to their results, SeamlessM4T outperforms Whisper in all translation tasks.
It can handle nearly 100 languages for text and 36 for speech.
It's composed of three main parts: one for understanding speech, one for converting speech to text, and one for turning text back into speech.
You can try out the demo or access the code, model, and data here.
Google announced massive AI upgrades
Google made some big announcements during its Google Next conference in San Francisco.
Highlights:
Google Cloud now offers 20 new AI models designed for businesses, making it easier for them to integrate AI into their operations.
Customers can now use third-party systems like LLaMa-2 from Meta and Claude 2 from Anthropic within Google Cloud.
A new tool AI watermark tool called SynthID helps spot AI-generated images and combat disinformation and deepfakes by adding watermarks to them.
Cloud customers can now access the latest TPU v5e AI training chips designed for generative AI and large language models (LLMs).
Google's Duet AI assistant is now available in major Workspace apps, but it comes with a price tag of $30 per month per user for enterprise users.
Google also updated its Vertex AI platform, introducing improvements to PaLM 2, enhanced code generation, and new search and conversational models.
Google has formed new AI partnerships with companies like General Motors, FOX Sports, Estee Lauder, and Ginkgo Bioworks.
These updates show that Google is heavily investing in AI technology to stay competitive in the AI industry.
Fooocus: New open-source image generation software
Meet Fooocus, the new Image Generator model in town.
Highlights:
Fooocus is both offline and free to use, similar to Stable Diffusion. It's also user-friendly like Midjourney, with no complicated settings to worry about. Just provide a prompt, and let the magic happen.
The creators have incorporated numerous built-in optimizations and improvements, making it easy to generate images without the need for complex prompts.
How to use it? If you're using Windows, you can download Fooocus and run the "run.bat" file. It will download two models the first time you launch it. On a laptop with 16GB of RAM and 6GB of VRAM, it operates at a speed of about 1.35 seconds per iteration. The minimum system requirements are 8GB of RAM and 4GB of VRAM.
Alternatively, you can use Fooocus online through Colab by opening and running this notebook in your web browser.
New version of ChatGPT
OpenAI has just launched ChatGPT Enterprise, a version designed for organizations, offering enhanced security, customization, and unrestricted, high-speed access to the powerful GPT-4 model.
Highlights:
Enterprise prioritizes business-grade privacy controls and encryption, assuring users that their data won't be used to train OpenAI's models.
The upgraded version provides unlimited, high-speed access to GPT-4 without any message caps. It also boasts an expanded context window of 32k characters, which is much larger than the standard model's ~8k limit, allowing for processing larger files.
Enterprise features a rebranded version of Code Interpreter, referred to as 'advanced data analysis.' Additionally, it offers shared chat templates, facilitating collaboration and the development of consistent workflows within organizations.
This update introduces shareable chat templates, making it easier for companies to create collaborative workflows.
Notably, the new ChatGPT is SOC2 compliant, ensuring it doesn't use your data for training. It also eliminates message caps, Code Interpreter limits, and provides a larger context window of 32k characters. Plus, it includes a new feature for shareable prompt templates, making it a significant upgrade.
OpenAI is making 35x more after ChatGPT launch
OpenAI is making impressive progress and is on track to reach $1 billion in annual revenue.
Highlights:
Currently, the company is generating approximately $80 million in revenue each month.
OpenAI faced a significant financial setback last year, with reported losses of $540 million, mainly due to the expensive development of AI models. OpenAI generated just $28 million in revenue last year before it started charging for ChatGPT (35 times more today).
The recent boost in revenue is largely attributed to the introduction of ChatGPT Enterprise, a specialized version designed for businesses. This new offering complements their existing premium consumer subscriptions.
This development is significant because it shows that OpenAI is moving past earlier financial challenges. The introduction of ChatGPT Enterprise has opened doors to substantial revenue from large companies, indicating that their financial success may continue to grow.
