Let's dive in.
Meta released GPT-3 competitor, LLaMA
Meta has launched a new group of models, and their largest one is 1/3 the size of GPT-3, with a whopping 65 billion parameters! That’s like trying to count all the grains of sand on a beach - good luck with that!
But, size isn’t everything. The LLaMa model outperforms other models on most benchmarks, so it’s definitely a force to be reckoned with. However, in the benchmarks, Meta failed to mention the new GPT-3.5 model, so we're left wondering how it will stack up against the latest and greatest from OpenAI.
And last but not least, some people are calling Meta out for being a little sneaky, claiming that they’re being deceptive with their openness on a model that has no API, interface, or even discernible commercial use. It’s like they’re trying to play hide and seek with their models.
We’ll have to wait and see how this one plays out, folks!
Musk vs OpenAI: Elon Musk recruits a team to create OpenAI's competitor
Check this out, Elon Musk is at it again! Apparently, he's forming a new AI research lab that will rival OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Back in 2015, Musk was part of the OpenAI founding crew, but in 2018, he waved goodbye to avoid any awkward situations with Tesla's AI department.
Musk has been pretty vocal about his concerns with ChatGPT and the lack of safeguards that prevent it from producing offensive content. And so, he's been reaching out to top AI researchers, including Igor Babuschkin, a machine learning expert formerly of Google's DeepMind, to join him in this endeavor.
Will Musk be able to give ChatGPT a run for its money? Only time will tell, folks!
Windows AI
Who would have thought that a Microsoft Windows release would have us all excited, right? Well, it's 2023 and we're all about inclusion here.
This new Windows 11 update is all about AI, and let me tell you, it's lit! They've gone ahead and given Bing an AI-powered search feature right on the taskbar. Now, your searches will trigger a flyout, giving you quick access to Bing's chatbot options in the Edge browser. It's like having a personal assistant right at your fingertips.
And let me tell you, Microsoft is getting pretty serious about their AI game. It's like they're trying to one-up everyone. Check out the link for more Windows 11 updates, if you're curious.
ChatGPT API: AI 10x cheaper
Big news coming in from OpenAI! Brace yourselves for a rollercoaster ride of excitement!
OpenAI has dropped not one, but TWO APIs at the same time - the ChatGPT and Whisper. That's like hitting two birds with one stone, or should I say, two AIs with one update!
Let me give you the deets:
The ChatGPT API is now 10x cheaper than older GPT-3 models! At just $0.002 per 1k tokens, it's like finding a penny on the sidewalk, only better.
And get this, the model behind ChatGPT is called gpt-3.5-turbo! Sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, right? But wait, it gets even better. You can use it for other regular use cases and not just chat. Mind blown!
The Whisper API is also super cheap, at only $0.006 per minute! That's like getting a cup of coffee for the price of a penny candy.
You can even use the Whisper API for transcriptions and translation. But be warned, it doesn't support SRT files or files larger than 25MB. Small price to pay for the convenience, am I right?
OpenAI AGI roadmap
OpenAI dropped an article titled "Planning for AGI and Beyond," and let me tell you, it's got some interesting thoughts about Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and humanity.
Here's the summary:
They're excited about the possibilities AGI could bring but also concerned about the risks.
They're advocating for cautious and responsible use of AI, with the public being involved in major decisions.
To OpenAI, the transition to a world with superintelligence through AGI is the most significant project humanity has ever undertaken.
Basically, OpenAI is like your wise grandma giving you advice on life, urging you to take calculated risks and make wise decisions.
AI can read our minds
Imagine?!
It looks like AI is now capable of reading our minds...or at least our brain activity.
In a recent study, researchers used fMRI data to generate images of brain activity without the need for complex deep-learning models. They fed simple brain activity data into Stable Diffusion, which recreated the images.
So, if you ever wanted to see what your thoughts look like in picture form, now's your chance! The goal of this research is to examine how diffusion models relate to our actual brain activity and find similarities between them.
Productive AI, GPT4, and others OpenAI's plans
Well, well, well, it looks like we've got some juicy leaked information on OpenAI's Foundry pricing, and if you're an AI aficionado, you're in for a treat.
Apparently, this leak says a lot about GPT4, aka The Great Implementation, and OpenAI's move from Generative to Productive AI. But that's not all, folks! This leak also gives us some insights into OpenAI's safety and growth strategies, as well as the future of work.
So, if you're ready to dive deep into the AI rabbit hole, check out this megathread on what to expect in 2023.
